CIC-Victoria: Russia and its Covid-19 response @ Virtual roundtable

We are now going to turn our attention to Russia and its Covid-19 response, which has been discussed at great length in the Canadian media. However, the media coverage of Russia frequently lacks perspective, often due to an absence of historical context and general background. In this Zoom roundtable we will try and bridge the above-mentioned gaps and add more substance to what you have read or heard about Russia’s health care system, government measures to fight the virus, support for its population and economy and the role disinformation has played in this pandemic.

Our speaker will be Anna Tsurkan, who is a Founder and a Project Coordinator of the Canada-Russia Research Initiative (https://thecrri.ca/). Anna grew up in Russia, where she obtained all her degrees, including a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Institute of the U.S.A. and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Her main areas of research include US-Russia and Canada-Russia relations, Islamic radicalism and counterterrorism. Anna has also written numerous papers and has given many presentations on a broad range of security and political subjects linked to Russian and Canadian foreign policy.
