US President Donald Trump has proposed inviting Russia back into the G7 for the third time, against the wishes of Canada and many of the other member countries.

Trump had hoped to host a G7 summit planned for July that would also include South Korea, India and Australia, but has announced that it may be postponed until September or later, according to Reuters.

Russia was removed from the then-called G8 for its annexation of Crimea, and “its continued disrespect and flaunting of international rules and norms is why it remains outside of the G7, and will continue to remain out”, states Justin Trudeau. He further notes that although Russia and other countries are still in the G20, Canada does not necessarily have good relations with all group members.
